PHARMACY CAREER PATH
Bernice is a student enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Chicago State University. Recently, Bernice was a recipient of the prestigious Schweitzer Fellowship. During her fourth professional year, she hopes to participate in the College of Pharmacy's Longitudinal Advanced Pharmacy Practice (LAPP) program with the University of Chicago Medicine to complete her clinical pharmacy training. Her graduation is scheduled for the spring of 2015.
The Doctor of Pharmacy program is conducted by two departments: Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy Practice. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences includes several specialty areas: pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, natural products/pharmacognosy, and physiology/pharmacology. The Department of Pharmacy Practice is comprised of faculty who provide instruction in the administrative and clinical sciences, as well as pharmacy practice experiences. - Community Pharmacy - Where pharmacists dispense medications and provide services such as immunizations and medication therapy management.
- Institutional Pharmacy - Where where pharmacists dispense medications and provide services as part of medical
- Academia - Where pharmacists are involved in teaching, research, public service, patient care, and serve as health care consultants.
- Specialty Pharmacy - Such as nuclear pharmacy, where pharmacists measure and deliver radioactive materials that are used in digital imaging (MRI, CT, etc.) and other procedures in medical offices and/or hospitals.

Ehab A. Abourashed, Ph.D.
Dr. Abourashe is an associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Chicago State University’s College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP) and is a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. He has a Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in pharmacognosy from the University of Mississippi.
