    • Do I have to pass the Illinois Test of Basic Skills to be elligible for the College of Education?
      Answer: Yes, to be eligible for student teaching, the student must have passing scores on the Illinois Tests of Basic Skills and the Certification Content Area Test and submitted proof of passing the certification test. Assistance in preparing for the test is available in the Teacher Development Center. Ed 309

    • Do I have to pass the Content Area Test in order to student teach?
      Answer: Yes, to be eligible for student teaching, the student must have passing scores on the Illinois Tests of Basic Skills and the Certification Content Area Test and submitted proof of passing the certification test.     • Where do I get my backgound check?

      Call or check website to get times and locations.
      Print the application from this link and take to the Accurate Biometrics location of your choice.

    • When am I ready to student teach?
      Answer: When all the mandatory courses have been completed and approval from advisor.

    • How long is student teaching?
      See schedule at this link.

    • Can I student teach at a school where I am currently working?
      Answer: Only for students in the options program.

    • How long is my student teaching day?
      Answer: Each student teacher must remain in the school the number of hours per day required of teachers in the school in which he/she is student teaching. This includes conferences and other activities related to student teaching. Hours not spent in student teaching must be spent engaged in some educationally related task.

    • Can I miss any days while I am student teaching?
      Answer:There is no provision for absence during student teaching. The Student must be prompt and in attendance daily. In case of unexpected absence(illness,death in immediate family, or other extreme circumstances), the field-based supervisor should be notified immediately. No more than five(5) absences can be made up. All make-up days must be within five(5) days after the scheduled end of the student teaching experience. More than five absences will result in an incomplete or a failing grade.

  • Do I have to attend the Student Teacher Application Meeting?
    Answer: Yes, it is mandatory.
  • If I do not pass the Assessment of Professional Teaching(APT) exam will I get my teacher certification?
    Answer: No.
