CSU President Honored as Educator of the Year

Dr. Wayne D. Watson, President of Chicago State University, was honored with the "Educational Leadership Award" by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) at the group's annual gala in Washington D.C. on November 11, 2013.

"I am honored and humbled to be presented with this prestigious award by one of the nation's leading advocates for Historically Black Colleges and Universities," Watson said. "For more than three decades, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund has been at the forefront of making college more affordable and accessible for African Americans nationwide. Because of the work TMCF does, hundreds of thousands of black men and women have been able to achieve the dream of higher education and go on to become national leaders in a variety of fields. I have greatly enjoyed working with the TMCF leadership and I look forward to the work we will do on behalf of the next generation of black leaders."

The Awards Gala, themed "Developing Minds ... Delivering Dreams", celebrates the achievements of the country's foremost visionaries who have used their status to support education and positively impact the lives of students attending HBCUs. Proceeds from the event enable TMCF to continue its programmatic and capacity building work as a critical link between students getting the most from their education and the opportunity to become a part of a new generation of global leaders.
