CSU Celebrates 354th Commencement

Chicago State University celebrated it's 354th Commencement Ceremony on Thursday May 15, 2014.  Over 800 students walked across the stage to receive their diploma and later celebrated with family and friends in the Jones Convocation Center.

CSU proudly welcomed attorney and civil rights champion Mr. Martin Castro as the 2014 commencement speaker.  Mr. Castro was appointed by President Barack Obama to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in January of 2011.

The 2014 Commencement featured several inspirational and moving moments including the graduation of Tonya and Aaron Williams, a mother and son who completed their goals together. Read more about Tonya and Aaron HERE.

Also graduating was Wilbert Taylor Jr., a criminal justice major who as a younger man was a victim of gun violence. After being told he would never walk again, Taylor persevered, learning to walk again and eventually walking across the stage to accept his diploma. See more about Taylor's story HERE.
