Internship Gives CSU Students Hands On Public Service Experience

Internship Gives CSU Students Hands On Public Service ExperienceCSU students Byron Stanley and Chris Muldrow recently completed a unique internship program through the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Illinois Petroleum Council (IPC) and took time during a recent reception at the President's home to reflect on the experience and thank all those involved who help make the internship a valuable experience.

Stanley and Muldrow specifically pointed to Congressman Bobby Rush, who was in attendance, for his efforts to encourage the industry to take steps towards creating more career opportunities for young minorities. The students also thanked Congresswoman Robin Kelly, State Reps. Marcus Evans and Art Turner Jr., Petroleum Council officials James Watson and Jennifer Baptist, officials from Enbridge Energy and CSU Dean of Students Farah Muscadin.

This was the first year  API / IPC offered minority internships for the 2014 Spring Semester at Chicago State University in order to show their commitment to providing young leaders with opportunities to develop their leadership skills and gain exposure to the public service sector.  The program provided the students hands-on experiences in the legislative process both in Springfield and in Washington D.C.

Muldrow and Stanley were selected for their commitment to public service and for showing leadership on campus. Both CSU and API hope to make this an annual internship program.
