Early Childhood Special Education

Chicago State University recognizes that every student deserves the best from educators to reach their full potential. Our Early Childhood Special Education endorsement equips educators with the tools and knowledge they need to best serve students with special learning needs. Educators will develop a range of skills for work in classrooms and community-based settings for children with disabilities and special needs up birth to second grade, including developmentally appropriate methods, assessment strategies, language development, and to foster positive, supportive family relationships.
Based on guidelines provided by the Illinois State Board of Education, candidates interested in receiving an Early Childhood Special Education Approval must be:

1. Child, Family, and Community Relationships in Early Childhood Special Education (2 credit hours) |
2. Speech and Language Development in Early Childhood Special Education (2 credit hours//*10hours of field experience) |
3. Methods of Instruction in Early Childhood Special Education (2 credit hours) |
4. Screening and Assessment in Early Childhood Special Education (2 credit hours//*10 hours of field experience) |
Accepting applications for the fall 2023 term through August 1, 2023. Only applicants holding a Illinois Professional Educator License are eligible for the program.
