Dr. Odochi Nwabara

My passion for public health began at Chicago State University's Community Health program. The program availed me with scholastic opportunities including internship, and participation in a research published in peer reviewed journal, with papers accepted for presentation at national and local public health conferences. My professors were extraordinary. I strongly believe that what they taught me has helped me to succeed in graduate school and in my current career.

Peter Cook, DPT

I graduated from the Pre-Physical Therapy program at Chicago State University in December 2010. I credit my level of success and career preparation to the education I received at Chicago State University.

I particularly valued the excellent class sizes that promoted student-teacher and student-student interaction, which my fellow students and I found lead to a deeper understanding of the topics presented. I feel the Pre-Physical Therapy curriculum at Chicago State University is dynamic, keeping pace with a research-based profession that is continuously changing.

The instructors and advisors were always willing to take time to answer any questions or counsel me through rough times. I personally appreciated the fact that each instructor challenged my understanding of the topics and always inspired my best efforts. They put phenomenal emphasis on superior preparation and understanding for successful admission into the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program and overall in the Physical Therapy profession. I want to thank all of you at Chicago State University for your time and care in regards to my education and career preparation.GO COUGARS!!!

I was not only challenged to understand the textbook portion of my education but I was also challenged to apply that knowledge to real world HIM experiences. My CSU education provided me the hands on experiences in both traditional and non-traditional settings. If I had to do it all over again, it will be CSU!

Chamille T. Johnson, CHES

“In 2011, I graduated with a B.S. in Community Health from Chicago State University (CSU). Before I joined the Community Health Program, I only knew the basics of community health and what it entailed. The education I gained from CSU influenced my successful progression from student to public health administrator. I am currently furthering my graduate education in the field of Human Services, which will enable me to implement social change efforts on a macro level. I have been influential in successfully writing grants that have been funded, which resulted in the creation of HIV/AIDS prevention programming. Community Health is a vital part of preventative measures for diseases, illnesses, and quality of life. I am currently the Patient Care Coordinator at Austin CBC Initiative, an organization that provides comprehensive HIV/AIDS services for individuals impacted and infected by HIV/AIDS. The purpose of our organization is to restore hope, improve health, and impart knowledge onto those who are difficult to reach within communities of color. Since 2012, I have collaborated with the Community Health Department to be a preceptor for the Community Health Practicum course. I am pleased to work with Chicago State University Community Health students. In my time as preceptor, I have provided mentorship, professional development, and future employment opportunities for multiple CSU graduates. I wholeheartedly endorse the CSU Community Health program that has been a beacon of my success.

The dedicated professors gave selfishly and tirelessly their time, patience and at times even their money to ensure we were well prepared for our careers. They made us believe in ourselves and refused to let us give up. I will forever be grateful for the smooth transition I made from student to a professional. When I attended graduate school I carried those same ideals and principles with me in earning me Masters degree in Health Administration.
