Black History Month Kicks off at CSU

All throughout February, CSU students, faculty and staff will celebrate Black History Month with a series of social activities, lectures and discussions, movie screenings and a variety of other events. The Department of Student Activities recently kicked off the festivities with an opening ceremony that included traditional African dance, music, rituals and poetry.

Each year the CSU student leaders choose a theme to honor Black History Month. This year's theme is "We Will Breathe". Chicago State University is the only Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) in Illinois.

As part of Black History Month, the CSU family is encouraged to read "The Miseducation of the Negro" by Carter G. Woodson. To hear more about the book from CSU Professor Amzie Moore click HERE.
