Unity Garden Unveiled
The Chicago State University quad was recently transformed into a colorful display
of fellowship and service at the unveiling of the campus Unity Garden, which features
bench displays decorated by each of the fraternity and sorority groups that make up
CSU's Greek life. CSU is the first University to have Fraternity/Sorority plots in
the Chicagoland area.
Greek Organizations have a rich history in the African American community. Existing
for over 100 years, they have been in the forefront of women’s suffrage, the Harlem
Renaissance, and the Civil Rights Movement just to name a few. The Unity Garden will
serve as a location where Fraternity and Sorority life can flourish and be visible
to all members of the CSU family.
The unveiling featured presentations by each fraternal organization including their
history, origins and traditions. The crowd of hundreds was also treated to a lively
step show following the presentations.
The participating Greek Organizations included:
- Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
- Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
- Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
- Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
- Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
- Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
- Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
- Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc.
- Elogeme Adolphi Christian Sorority, Inc.
