1. How did you start your pharmacy journey? |
I started my journey with CVS for about a year before I realized that retail was not
for me. I transitioned into working in a hospital environment which was something
I was always interested in throughout school. |
2. What do you do as a specific practice? |
I currently work as a clinical inpatient pharmacist in a hospital and I also work
for a company that contracts with insurance companies such as Blue Shield to do virtual
MTM’s and adherence calls. |
3. How did you get started in your specific practice? |
I was able to get into inpatient hospital environment thankfully due to a strong clinical background from my rotations as I did the LAPP program. Working in a hospital environment
and providing transitions of care to patients getting discharged prepared me for the
MTM job I do today. |
4. What advice do you have to become a specific practice? |
I would recommend getting a residency if the planned route is to get into inpatient
pharmacy. The next step thereafter would be to get Board Certified. If the plan is
to work for insurance companies and managed care, I would recommend doing a residency
that is focused in managed care to gain more insight in that aspect of pharmacy. |
5. What is your favorite part of being a specific practice? |
My favorite part of working in an inpatient setting is being able to learn something
new everyday. Attending codes and going on rounds really helps us work together as
an interdisciplinary team with other healthcare professionals. My favorite part of
doing MTMs, is the patient interaction I get and being able to educate the general
population about their medications in the comfort of their own homes. |
