1. How did you start your pharmacy journey? |
I received my Bachelors in Science in Biology from UAB and PharmD from CSU-COP. Prior
to being admitted into the Pharmacy program, I worked as a pharmacy technician for
5 years in the community setting. I was impressed by the impact that pharmacists had
on their patients and knew immediately I wanted to be on the opposite side of the
counter. Upon graduation, I continued to work in the community setting. Alongside,
I was also a Pharmacy Practice lab facilitator and preceptor. The student interactions
and mentoring ignited my passion to pursue a position which would allow me to have
more involvement with the students. |
2. What did you do as Director of Student Affairs & Recruitment? |
I had a multitude of roles in this nontraditional practice setting, such as: supporting
the current students in their extracurricular activities (overseeing student organizations),
educating, guiding, and mentoring prospective students about the program, admissions,
and profession. Additionally, working with the marketing team to promote the program
on our social media platforms and assisting in planning events for the Office of Student
Affairs. Lastly, one role that is close to my heart, is teaching our students in
the Pharmacy Practice Series. This is a unique position because it allows me to give
back to my community and allows me to continuously develop new skills and grow as
a pharmacist. |
3. How did you get started as the Director of Student Affairs & Recruitment? |
I was approached for this role by one of my faculty members and Assistant Dean of
Student Affairs at the time (in 2020). When I first got started, I was new to the
role and didn't know what it entailed. However, as time progressed I began to realize
this was a role of a lifetime. It perfectly aligned with my interests and I quickly
knew I found the perfect fit for my PharmD. |
4. What advice do you have to get started? |
Network, network, network. Research student affairs certification programs, attend
NASPA, get a Student Affairs mentor through AACP, and have a palpable drive to work
with students. |
5. What is your favorite part about your position? |
Student success!! I chose this position because I knew I wanted to help students succeed
in their endeavors, be it as a current pharmacy student, or as a prospective applicant.
I wanted to provide them with guidance and mentorship that would set them up for success
prior to starting pharmacy school, throughout, and upon graduation. Student success
is a reflection of the community they are a part of and my goal will always be to
create a positive and supportive environment for them to prosper. |
