1. How did you start your pharmacy journey? |
My first degree was in mass communication and afterwards I obtained a Master of Science degree in Marketing/Public relations. Upon my relocation to the United States in 2014,
I decided to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a pharmacist. I proceeded to South suburban college for my pre-pharmacy coursework and eventually obtained an associate degree
in science. While I was doing my pre-pharmacy course work at South Suburban College,
I worked as a pharmacy technician at Walmart Pharmacy. I obtained my Doctor of Pharmacy degree
from CSU-COP in 2021. |
2. What do you do as Clinical Assistant Professor? |
I perform various roles ranging from teaching, service to research. My teaching role
entails delivering didactic lectures to pharmacy students. I lecture majorly in the DAST and
PPS VI series. In terms of service, I am involved in several committees including Admissions,
Curriculum and Assessment, University Wide interprofessional Education, OSCE task force and Health Outreach Task Force committees. I also maintain a practice site at OSF Little Company
of Mary. My role at my practice site includes rounding with the medical team, optimizing patient
care and precepting pharmacy students. |
3. How did you get started as Clinical Assistant Professor? |
After I obtained my PharmD, I proceeded to obtain a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and a
Teaching Certificate Program as well. The teaching certificate program afforded me the opportunity
to discover my passion for teaching and I decided to go for it. There was no better place
to start my teaching career than my Alma-Mata. It was very easy to adapt to my new role because
the environment was familiar, and the faculty members were very much available to assist
me in transitioning to my new role. |
4. What advice do you have to become as Clinical Assistant Professor? |
Equip yourself with knowledge. Knowledge is key. You cannot give what you don’t have.
Follow your passion. Do not get involved in anything you are not passionate about. Your passion
is going to be your driving force. Obtain the necessary certifications such as residency
and teaching certificate. Reach out to your network and your mentors for guidance and
assistance. Sign up with indeed, LinkedIn and other platforms that will alert you when positions
become available. |
5. What is your favorite part of being as Clinical Assistant Professor? |
Helping students learn gives me so much pleasure. I put in so much time into making
my lecture slides and coming up with active learning strategies. My goal is to make my slides
easy to follow and easy to understand. I have received a lot of positive feedback from my students
which is confirmation that the time I put into making the slides and delivering the lectures
is not wasted. This encourages and motivates me to do more. |
