Archives and Records Management Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Archives and Records Management (ARM) is designed for students with undergraduate degrees in history, or any other discipline who are interested in careers in archives and records management. It will also provide professional development opportunities for support staff in Chicago-area who need a credential in their field of practice. Some of the credit hours earned in this certificate may be later applied towards the Master degree in History or Library and Information Science.
The certificate consists of six courses or 18 credit hours: (1) four required courses, and (2) two out of six directed elective courses. All the six courses must be passed with a GPA 3.0 and above. This certificate is associated with the Masters of Science in Library and Information Science (M.S. LIS). Students interested in learning more about the field, may be interested in completing the Masters degree.
The goals of the program are:
To help prepare students for careers as archivists, curators, oral historians, records managers, and historical interpreters
To underscore the interdisciplinary nature of the historical and archival professions
To lay the groundwork for a broader program in public history
