Text Message and MMS Policy

Policy Statement

This text message and MMS policy governs text messages and multimedia text messages from Enrollment Management units at Chicago State University (CSU).

Applicability

This policy applies to all members of the CSU Community, including students, faculty, staff, trusted partners, contractors and users of Enrollment Management networks and messaging systems.

Definitions

Participants in Chicago State University’s SMS and MMS text message program and those that are either prospective students, applicants, admitted or currently enrolled students. The population consists of first time-first year, transfer, re-admission, and second bachelor’s degree students.

Policy Language

All Participants in CSU’s Enrollment Management text message campaigns must provide prior consent to receive text or MMS messages from CSU. Consent may be provided digitally, via an opt-in process, such as through website forms, sign-up sheets, or direct request via a student's application. Message and data rates may apply. Please consult with your wireless carrier for applicable fees related to SMS messaging. Charges for messages depend on your mobile plan. All communications will comply with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) department and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and all local, state or international regulations that govern text and MMS messaging usage.

Policy Procedure

All Participants in CSU’s SMS and MMS text message program will receive a clear and easily accessible way to opt-out of receiving text and MMS messages. All CSU SMS and MMS text messages from CSU will be directly related to the purpose for which the recipient has opted in (i.e., application updates, account updates, admissions related messaging, campus visits, marketing, etc.).

All messages will easily and directly identify the sender as being Chicago State University. Messages will be sent within an appropriate reading grade level for understanding. Clear and respectful language will be used with the intent to easily communicate the reason for contacting the subscriber.

Enforcement

Individuals that are not interested in receiving messages may opt out. The Enrollment Management Communications and Marketing Department is responsible for enforcement of this policy.
