CSU Awarded Historic Grant with Indian Partner University

Chicago State University was recently announced as one of eight Universities in the nation to be awarded a historic, highly competitive and prestigious Obama-Singh Education Grant, cementing a relationship between CSU and JNTU-Kakinada, our partner school in India, that will increase CSU's global presence.

The Obama-Singh grants are designed to fund institutional partnerships between Indian and U.S. institutions of higher education, through faculty exchanges and research and innovation collaboration in the priority areas.  

The CSU / JNTU grant will go towards an academic program entitled "Promoting University-Industrial Cooperation, Creativity, Diversity and Entrepreneurship in Computer Science."

CSU welcomed the Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-Kakinada last year in the lead up to the grant application process. At that time, CSU President Dr. Wayne Watson said:

"Over the past two decades, US – India relations have evolved rapidly and we now find ourselves as global partners in many areas, specifically in science, engineering, technology and math.  As educators, we have a responsibility to meet the growing needs of these evolving relations. We both have challenges in higher education that a strong partnership can help alleviate. In India, there remains a pressing need to improve higher education capacity. Here in the United States, we must have students who are more globally aware if they are to compete. Together we can begin to outline strategies that will address these issues and make both our institutions stronger in the process."
