CSU’s Mariya Kostyuk Named WAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Mariya Kostyuk Named WAC Women’s Tennis Player of the WeekCHICAGO – Following an undefeated week in singles, Chicago State University junior Mariya Kostyuk was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today.

The award marks the first for Kostyuk and the second this season for the Cougars joining fellow junior Lorea Gamboa, who won the honor in November.

Kostyuk finished with a 3-0 record at No. 2 singles last week with straight set wins over a pair of Horizon League teams in UIC and Green Bay to go along with capturing a three-set victory over Northern Illinois. She also teamed with fellow junior Leshia Gadacz to post a win at No. 1 doubles in the Green Bay match.
For the season, Kostyuk has produced an 11-8 season record in singles play that includes a 6-2 mark in dual matches and holds a 5-0 record at the No. 2 flight position.

CSU closes out a short two-match homestand on Saturday, Feb. 11 against NCAA Division II Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill., with a start time of 4pm
