Illinois Law Experts Discuss Social Equity and Justice in Chicago

The first in its' history, CSU hosted a Criminal Justice Institute that welcomed expert opinions from Kwame Raoul, Illinois Attorney General, Ruben Castillo, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, Sydney Roberts, Director of COPA, John R. Lausch, Jr., U.S. Attorney, David H. Coar(Ret.) former judge, U.S. District Court and Xavier Ramey, CEO, Justice Informed. 

The esteemed panelist discussed the Chicago Police Consent Decree and challenging issues in criminal law that impact justice and social equity in Chicago.  The discussion was moderated by Nathalina Hudson, Deputy Attorney General, Criminal Justice Division of the Illinois Attorney General Office who also acknowledge and congratulated President Z Scott, on her new role as Chief Executive Officer of Chicago State University.

Panelist discussed their roles in society and how they serve the public and work hard to protect the rights of many including the youth and undeserved communities.  Keynote speaker, Sydney Roberts, Director of COPA shared her law experiences and convictions, noting the Laquan  McDonald murder was an eye opener for her and she knew then she wanted to do more to better serve the city of Chicago.

The event was closed by a presentation on expungement given by staff from the Cabrini Green Legal Clinic.
