Chicago State University’s College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Wants You to “Make Pharm Your Future” in New Educational Campaign

As applications open for admission into the Doctor of Pharmacy program and opportunities for pharmacists continue to evolve, Chicago State educates and encourages prospective students on potential career pathways

Chicago, Illinois (August 29, 2023) - The College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Chicago State University (CSU) announced today a new campaign to help educate and inspire prospective students on the numerous career possibilities that exist with a degree in pharmacy. The multi-facted “Make Pharm your Future” campaign aims to shed light not only on the recent growth and change in the pharmacy profession, but also the many opportunities available for pharmacy students at CSU. The launch of the campaign comes shortly after the opening of the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy application portal for the Fall 2024 semester.

According to a recent study by Statista, the pharmaceutical market has experienced significant growth during the past two decades, and industry revenues worldwide totaled $1.48 trillion U.S. dollars in 2022. In terms of employment prospects, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates about 13,600 job openings for pharmacists each year, on average, over the next decade and for median annual earnings to top $128,000.

“Our goal behind the ‘Make Pharm your Future’ campaign is to showcase how the pharmacy program at Chicago State University equips its students with an integrated curriculum where they utilize classroom knowledge in applied pharmacy stimulation labs and experiential rotations,” said Dr. Tashel Gandhi, PharmD, Director of Student Affairs and Admissions Specialist for the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. “The innovative curriculum aims to prepare students to be compassionate and well-rounded pharmacists who can provide exceptional patient care in an array of diverse patient settings and populations.”

A humorous yet telling video shared by CSU as part of the larger campaign helps to illustrate the lack of general understanding around the potential of a degree in pharmacy. CSU will be sharing content throughout the month aimed at informing future students while debunking popular pharmaceutical myths.

“People often hear ‘pharmacist’ and think only of the pharmacist at their local corner drugstore. The reality of professional opportunities is much richer than that, and we’re proud that our students go on to be leaders in the industry in a variety of capacities and settings,” Gandhi added.

Per the Fall 2021 AACP report, CSU’s College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy is ranked as the number one school in the Midwest to educate underrepresented minority students in pharmacy. Compared to other pharmacy programs, tuition and fees for CSU’s program are significantly more competitive, not to mention over $200,000 in scholarships were awarded to 52 pharmacy students for the 2021-2022 academic year. With a student-faculty ratio of 4:1 and classes taking place in 3,000 square foot laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, CSU hopes all Chicagoland students will consider what it means to “Make Pharm Your Future” next Fall.

While the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy application period will remain open until May 1, applicants who submit early within that time frame are prioritized for merit scholarships pending academic performance review.
