Gyamfuah Sarfo-Mensah

Dr. Gyamfuah Sarfo-Mensah is a cultural and developmental psychologist whose work centers on issues at the nexus of identity, culture, and environment. Her interests are broadly organized around two lines of inquiry. Firstly, she examines life course development within cultural, ecological, and structural contexts. Her recent work uses qualitative, ethnographic, and community-based participatory action methods to explore how migration and electronic waste work shape the psychosocial trajectories of young men in urban Ghana. Secondly, she is interested in how messages about Black/African cultural identity and relationships to nature become salient and are transmitted intergenerationally through folklore, storytelling, and artistic practice.
