The Upward Bound/TRIO Program is an academic and college preparatory program for high
school students funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The Mission of the Chicago State University’s Upward Bound Program is to assist low-income
and first-generation college bound high school students in the successful completion
of secondary education by preparing them academically as well as socially and culturally
for enrollment and completion of higher education. This is accomplished by providing
scholars with a rigorous and nurturing academic, college, and financial aid advising,
career exploration, leadership opportunities, and cultural enrichment. In order
to be eligible for the program you must meet the following criteria:
- Meet poverty, low-income by federal guidelines
- Be potential first-generation college student (parents don’t have a bachelor’s degree)
- Be considered at risk for academic failure (having C’s, D’s or F’s on report card)
- Live in targeted communities, zip codes: 60617, 60619, or 606028
