The Department of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences, and Technology
(CIMST) at Chicago State University has made significant strides in providing hands-on
learning opportunities for undergraduate computer science students through its collaboration with P33Chicago and PWC. As part of the Fall 2024
Strong Start projects, four innovative initiatives were designed to enhance students'
technical skills and prepare them for future careers in cutting-edge technology fields.
The students from the CPTR 1900 - Introduction to Computer Professions class participated
in the event. Prof. Kristen Griffin served as the instructor of the class and was
instrumental in building this relationship with P33Chicago and PWC.
The final presentations for these projects were held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, and were attended by several distinguished guests from Chicago State University, including Mark Smith, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Mohammad Abdus Salam, Chair of the CIMST Department; Melanie Sillas, Executive Director of the Chicago State Foundation; and Yvette T. Powe, Director of Corporate & Philanthropic Relationships. Representing PWC were Fred Terry, Charles Sackman, Augusto Ornelas, and Ted Andrews, the main coordinator for PWC. Additionally, Tara Guillaume from P33Chicago honored the event with her presence, contributing to the success of the presentations.
These projects offered CIMST students invaluable hands-on experience, fostering technical expertise and collaborative problem-solving skills. By engaging students in real-world scenarios and partnering with industry leaders, CIMST continues its mission to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs, equipping students with the skills necessary to excel in a competitive technological landscape.
