From October 15 to October 19, 2024, a delegation from Chicago State University (CSU), including Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Sonja Feist-Price, Dr. Lavada Taylor, Dean of the College of Education, Mark Smith, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Mohammad Abdus Salam, Chair of the Department of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences, and Technology, visited Türkiye.
During their stay in Istanbul, the CSU team visited "The Museum for the History of Science and Technology in Islam," where they had the unique opportunity to meet Bilal Erdoğan, son of the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The CSU team also met with Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakan Hocaoğlu and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sezgin from the College of Engineering and Sciences at Istanbul Commerce University (ICU), along with other faculty members, to explore potential academic collaborations. The delegation toured several labs and the ICU campus as part of the visit.
From October 17 to 19, the delegation attended two major events at Kirikkale University in Kırıkkale, Türkiye: the 1st International Congress on Children in All Dimensions and the 2nd Rectors' Conference. At the Congress, Dr. Salam presented a paper titled, "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Personalized Learning for Children." Simultaneously, university presidents from various countries, including Algeria, Bosnia, Indonesia, and Romania, shared their research at the Rectors' Conference, which was held in parallel with the Congress. The Rectors' Conference provided a platform for global academic leaders to share insights and present articles on a range of educational and institutional topics.
During the visit, CSU and Kirikkale University solidified their growing partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing their commitment to future academic collaborations. The CSU delegation received a warm welcome from Kirikkale University President, Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan, Vice-President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Basalan, and other faculty members.
Additionally, the CSU team, along with other international delegates, had the honor of meeting the Governor of Kirikkale, Mehmet Makas, further enhancing relations between CSU and Turkish academic institutions.
