Dr. Lucinda Boyd: I am back! Dr. Lucinda Boyd reporting to duty. Having gone full circle and coming back to CSU has been amazing. I started here under the guidance of Drs. Goss, Nkansah, and Jones. Having completed my MSc at UNC Wilmington and Ph.D. at Louisiana State University, I am glad to return to give back what was given to me while here. I know that my foundation here prepared me for my next with CSU's solid educational platform. I am very thankful for this.
Dr. Felicia Davenport: I just graduated with my PhD in Bioengineering with a concentration in Biomechanics from Georgia Tech. I’m currently working at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in Dayton, Ohio as a Biomedical Research Engineer. Here at AFRL, I research aircrew musculoskeletal disorders such as back pain and aim to leverage state-of-the-art technologies such as computational modeling, wearable sensing, and artificial intelligence as interventions for injury risk prediction and prevention. I owe my accomplishments and career trajectory thus far to my academic career at Chicago State University. I’m someone who never dreamed of being a PhD, as it wasn’t something I expected could be within my reach. Professors such as Dr. Mel Sabella and Dr. Archibald Peters ensured that I had access to resources and experiences (such as summer REU programs), exposure to presenting at conferences, and publishing scientific research articles to be a competitive applicant for graduate schools. Even more importantly, CSU served as a safe space for me to build my academic and intellectual foundation to excel in such spaces as a top PWI institution or a government research role. CSU as a whole is a great university that makes each student feel important and not a number, but the Physics department plants a seed in students which fosters the growth of unique and limitless pursuits and opportunities for their lifetime. Once a cougar, always a cougar!
Dr. Kiara Fenner: I plan to continue my research in computational biophysics by pursuing a postdoc position. I am currently working as an adjunct faculty member teaching physics at CSU to give back to the students that are the next generation of scientists. CSU helped prepare me for collaborative research and public presentations. The faculty at CSU go to great lengths to prepare students for scientific writing and advertising desirable skills to employers as well as potential graduate schools.

My experience at Chicago State University was an adventure because I was not sure if I was capable of graduating. I did not know what success was and importantly what that meant for me. Due to my persistent and willpower, I am proud to be the first graduate out of my family to receive a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. As a result, I can be more independent and to care for myself and my family. My professors helped me to find and define my passion by encouraging me, pushing and teaching me the skills and knowledge that I need after my time at CSU.
