Sociology Major Overview

General Requirements

Admission to the program is contingent upon good academic standing and acceptance by the department. The department will not accept D grades in transfer credits. Achievement of a grade of C or better is required in all major courses at Chicago State University. Students must complete 120 semester hours of work to graduate.

Course Offerings

Typically 15 or so courses offered every semester. Classes are offered in mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. (About half of our majors are primarily evening and weekend students.)

  • SOC 4830 (Statistics)
  • SOC 4980 (Senior Seminar)


Sociology Requirements: 12 Credit Hours: (Select one from each of the following)

  • Social Foundation Class: Soc 1110, 2050, 2030, 2100
  • Social Inequality Class: Soc 1200, 2250, 2230, 3230
  • Social Institutions Class: Soc 2300, 4300, 3300, 4280
  • Social Change Class: Soc 2400, 2410, 3400, 3430

 

Sociology Electives: 12 Credit Hours:

  • 6 Credits of sociology/social work at the 2000 or 300 level
  • 6 credits of sociology/social work at the 4000 level
