Chicago State University College of Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy offer a 12-month PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program. This one-year post-doctoral program is ideal for anyone seeking advanced training in community pharmacy, academia, and ambulatory care. One position is available, offering unique experiences and a variety of activities that will help develop leadership, clinical and teaching skills.

Walmart has been a pharmacy leader expanding access to care and improving clinical outcomes since 1978. The residency serves to enhance your professional training though development and implementation of programs that seek to improve clinical outcomes and patient safety.

The program offers unique experiences in an advanced community pharmacy environment. Residents will receive training in the provision of various preventative services and disease state management programs including:

  • Diabetes
  • Immunizations
  • Point-of-Care Testing
  • Travel Health Services
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Medication Adherence

The goal of the PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program is to educate and train pharmacists capable of developing, implementing and providing patient-centered pharmacy care services in the community setting. The resident will also attain additional knowledge and skills in conducting practice-based research, performing academic activities and providing ambulatory care services.

Approximately 60% of the resident’s time is focused on providing direct patient care in Walmart pharmacies. This will allow the resident to develop and implement patient-centered pharmacy care services in the community pharmacy setting.

Approximately 30% of the resident’s time will be allocated towards developing his/her clinical skills in the ambulatory care setting, and participating in a teaching certificate program.

The remaining 10% of the residency training is concentrated in the areas of:
