Cybersecurity
One of the core critical technology areas advanced through CINSER is cybersecurity.
What is Cybersecurity?
According to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, cybersecurity can be defined as:
the art of protecting networks, devices, and data from unauthorized access or criminal use and the practice of ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.
The Department of Defense created Directive 8570 in 2005 to manage its cybersecurity workforce (called "Information Assurance" at that time). This directive outlined the educational qualifications and work roles for cybersecurity. DoD 8570 was revised, expanded and renumbered as Directive 8140. DoD 8570 outlined the DoD's cybersecurity technical roles and required training; a list of industry certifications for each role is provided. An approved list of the DoD 8750 baseline certifications for each cybersecurity role is available here. The roles described include Information Assurance Technical (IAT), Information Assurance Management (IAM), Information Assurance Architecture and Engineering (IASAE) and Cyber Security Service Provider (CSSP).
There are many coursework opportunities at CSU that can help you prepare for cybersecurity industry certification in order to join the cybersecurity technology workforce. Please see the list below for coursework supporting certification (consult the university bulletin for a schedule of when classes are offered).
