Dennisha Mitchell — from Student to Staff

“You are exactly where you need to be.” This saying proved true for me during my journey at Chicago State University. When I enrolled at CSU, my first semester went so well that I decided I didn’t want to leave! My mother, a CSU graduate and older brother who was also enrolled at CSU at the time encouraged me to make the most of my experience and I’m so grateful they did. I earned my B.A. in Communications, Media Arts & Theatre (CMAT). I enjoyed learning from my professors and going to class never seemed like a dreaded, boring chore. My professors were experts in their fields and so passionate about providing their students with the tools we needed to be successful. I enjoyed filming videos for class, learning TV production, and producing radio content.

CMAT allowed me to unleash my creativity and it was fun to challenge myself and see what I could come up with for assignments. My classmates became my family and I looked forward to seeing them every day. I will never forget all the laughs and epic jokes. As a commuter student, I was eager to get involved on campus and build more relationships. I tried out for cheerleading and later became captain! Being a student athlete taught me so many lifelong skills like teamwork, perseverance, and adult-ing in general. The support and wisdom my coach provided was unmatched. My favorite memories as a cheerleader are game days, cheer camp in Wisconsin and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tournament in Las Vegas.
